Revelation 20 – When God will Judge the Secrets of Men (Part 1)

Do we have forever to make our decisions? Doesn't the experience of life teach us that opportunities expire? The Bible warns this way in Hebrews 9:27, “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment.” This message is about that appointment with death and a decision that needs to be made beforehand.

Sermon Notes

Summary:

We see God’s binding of Satan for 1000 years while Jesus Christ reigns on the earth as omnipotent King. This is called the Millennial Kingdom, but before that 1000 years is started there are some other things that must take place. One of those things is the completion of the first resurrection when the martyred tribulation saints will be resurrected. Another is the bema seat judgement of all God’s saints; that is, all who are going to heaven (2 Cor 5:10). And thirdly, there is the Lord’s judgment of the nations, determining who will be populating the Millennial Kingdom. The most critical content, and the emphasis of today’s message, comes in verse 6. We must all die a first death, a physical death, but those who are not in Christ Jesus will face what the Bible calls the second death, which will be judgement, separation from God, and the eternal finality of a lost person’s condition.

Key Points/Questions:

  • What is your assurance (or lack of) that you will have part in the first resurrection?
  • Why would God release Satan again? Why has God permitted Satan to remain on earth until now?
  • Read John 6:39-54. What do you see emphasized in verses 39, 40, 44, and 54? How do we take part in the first resurrection?
